On the Rev kits that are in the lifter galley, Two purposes...1. If you break a rocker arm or push rod, the RK will keep the lifter in place, not allowing the cam to throw it out of the lifter bore[also preventing a wide open oil pressure loss] and ...
2. It ends the slamming effect [which breaks stuff] of the cam throwing the lifter off the cam's ramp at higher RPM, really any RPM, which is limited to the valve lash.
The springs have very low tension and don't allow you to lessen in any way the seat pressure [250# maybe] of a roller cam.
