I do not believe any of the BM cars started out in life as base models. The whole premise of producing the cars cheaply was the original engine or short block could be re-sold by the Baldwin Chev. parts department. I believe they all started as SS or Z-28's. The 67-69 cars I have seen were all original SS cars. The '70 and later camaros seem to have started as both SS and Z-28's, but predominantly Z-28's.
I have most of the Hi-Performance CARS magazines and Speed & Supercar magazines from that era that feature many BM's and don't recall ever seeing a base car.
Not saying this is absolute by any means, just basing it on what I have seen and learned to date. Was thinking a couple of other board members also owned BM Camaros. Perhaps they can add some additional info.
