Street Freak update:
Took the day off of work to force myself to work on the car some. It’s been sitting and I want to start getting stuff painted before the winter. I’d like to get the top of the car in primer, but I’ll see if that happens.
Otherwise today I painted to roll cage using Rustoleum hammer black. A couple of posts on YellowBullet talked about brushing it on so I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m thrilled with how it came out. First thing this morning I got the car pushed outside and spent half an hour blowing the car off, sanding the cage, and wiping it down with prep wipes. Took about 2 hours to get the whole cage done and like I said, I’m very happy with it.
Once that was drying I pulled the engine forward and got that prepped and primered. After waiting about half an hour I painted that engine in AMC metallic blue. Personally I think it’s far and away the best looking engine color ever used by any manufacturer.
My last project of the day was painting the front frame rails white. I’m planning to paint the whole underside of the car this way but wanted to test somewhere first. It’ll sit and harden overnight and I’ll see how it looks in the morning.
I also spent a few minutes once the engine was done and got the damper torqued into place using an arp balancer bolt.
With any luck I’d like to get the engine back in the car so over the winter I can piece together all of the drives for the blower, fuel pump, and alternator.
