Chinese dumplings, or jiaozi, have been around for more than 1,800 years. They're widely eaten during Chinese New Year as a symbol of wealth and treasure, as they are meant to look like silver ingots, which were used as currency in ancient times. Most commonly, they're filled with ground pork but can also be made with shrimp, ground chicken or beef, fish and vegetables. According to legend, the more pleats they have, the luckier they are, and the more dumplings you eat, the more money you'll make in the New Year.
