You are likely thinking of Dean Ribich who at the time owned the survivor 70 LS6 Chevelle nick named the "Benchmark Chevelle". Dean was a members of the club at one time when it originally started and I believe one of the first club gatherings took place it his home. I believe this photo was taken at that very gathering.

OK, yeah, the Benchmark Chevelle. I've seen pics of the first meeting at his house, in the rain.
I've been a member for about 10 years only. Derek, a co-founder, is still active. I went to MCACN for the first time with him 3 years ago. Like everyone else here, I was really looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the 1970 models.
