I did all of the side trim for my brother's 73 LT Z28 as I stated above, I have been removing anodizing from aluminum items since the 1980's with HD oven cleaner.

Here ya go... piece on left is partially stripped, see the "brighter" patches on the trim... that is anodizing left after the first "stripping"
The right has been stripped and then polished with mothers.
Obviously if you find mild scratches etc a little water sanding with 1500 - 2000 - 3000 then polish - same as stainless JUST MUCH LESS AGGRESSIVE on grits.
