Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I called the machine shop last night and we have finally agreed on a reciprocating solution:-)
I had many options and ideas and they had ideas and options.
In the end we agreed on a 6.5% increase in cost and a significant increase in good stuff:-)
the bottom end will be:
Fel Pro gaskets
Valley pan gasket
Stock oil pan
Melling oil pump standard volume, standard pressure
Melling oil pump drive
Melling oil pump pick up
Arp bolts, mains, harmonic damper, heads, (rods come with Arp)
292 ford rear main seal (neoprene)
Comp Cams "K" camshaft kit
Clevite bearings (all)
Eagle I Beam 6.200 SBC rods
Wiseco Pro True 400 SBC pistons
Wiseco "H" ring set
N nodular cast iron crank 0.010" under on mains and ground to SBC rod journal 2.100"
I am now ver excited about the outcome, I was really not feeling good about the other options but this will now be a real kick butt set up.
The pistons have all the improvements one would want:
Forged 4320 Aluminum
0.068" overbore 4.125 OD (362 Cubic Inches)
Light weight
Thin rings set 1/16, 1/16, 3/16
Smaller floating pins at SBC diameter 0.927 vs SBO 0.980"
Short compression height 1.425 vs 1.615
The rods are the main improvement that I was after, if a rod fails all is lost:
I beam
Forged
lower cost SBC size
Now my engine is on the right track
Ryan
