I agree,it was a stencil applied by US Steel in certain areas of their lot runs they put out that were later used to form vehicles gas tanks,and not put on every single solitary tank,yet many want you to believe different.
One owner probably noticed this logo on his Trucks gas tank that was cut from the area where the US Steel logo was applied,so they reproduced this stencil and sold it to the market as an &quot;EVERYONE has to have this on their cars gas tank to be considered correct,and positioned dead center on the bottom of the tank&quot; detail.
Personally I chalk this one under overdone &quot;happy marks&quot;.

Thanks. That's a new one on me. Mine had a grease pencil mark on the top rear driver's side, but that's it.
