They install the freeze plugs, I prefer brass over steel, then mount a steel plate to one side of the block, where the head mounts. They apply 50 pounds of air pressure and watch for any loss of pressure. After that, they do the same thing to the other side. Much more affective than magnaflux. Magnaflux is good for checking around the main saddles.....areas where there are no coolant passages.
