FWIW I would prefer to stay in Santa Monica than Venice. Plenty to choose from. As for car shows,you could check out Bob's at Burbank Friday night and if you are up early you could catch Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach on Saturday morning. Lot's happening in LA all year round. Lots of info in the link.
