Default Re: 1969 Z28 heads

Generally, the #041 head was used on the 350cid./300hp. L48 engine for the 1969 model year. However, Alan L. Colvin's 1965-69 "Chevy by the Numbers" (pages 102 & 106) states the #186 head may have possibly been used interchangeably with the #041 head through the 1969-70 production. Although the Z28 did use 2.02/1.60 valves and the SS350 used 1.94/1.50 both #186 and the #041 heads appear to have a 63.305cc. unless it was used on a Corvette application. To answer your question, no I have never seen #041 heads on a Z28. You might have a mismatch or maybe at some point throughout the years someone had modified that particular #041 head?? Maybe another sYc member has had the same findings as you did and they might be able to shed more light on this subject.

I currently own a 1969 Camaro SS350. Although the original drivetrain is long gone, this 4/speed car has a March '69 HC coded block with #041 heads. The transmission is an M20 Muncie #660 case and the rearend is a BS coded 12 bolt posi. Built in Van Nuys.
