Came up with my own solution. A little labor intensive, but stuff like this keeps me out of trouble.

Started with a later model clip, Auveco number is A14546. I bought them from clips and fasteners.com.

That is the first pic.

Trimmed it down.

Took the trimmed down clip to the bench grinder and grooved the back side for a cleaner fit.

Removed the old clip. Tried to save the staple. Some survived, but replaced those that didn't with a common office staple.

Drilled two small holes in the new clip to match up with the staple.

Attached to the inner retaining sleeve with the staple.

Put a very small wrap of electrical tape very tightly around the stapled area just for insurance.

Wrapped the entire harness with new non-adhesive vinyl wrap in the correct width.

Looks pretty darn factory.

These new clips are VERY tough. Although they trim easily with a fresh razor blade, they can take a twist and pull and remain intact.

I bought 75 of them, because in bulk they are unbelievably cheap.
