Most tire shops had a "Volkswagen" adapter which is a direct bolt set up. The hold down plate in the trunk is for use on the 40/40 tire changing machines..... the hold down plate can also be used when using a bubble balancer. An on the car balancer is the best way to balance 8 lugs. The 8 lugs on my '67 GP are way out of balance...... I'm going to try and balance the whole wheel/drum/tire assy on a spin balancer..
