LOL. You're right. I don't consider a car truly "my own" until I have taken it apart and somehow injured myself and/or bled while putting it back together.
When my 10-year old son was putting together the engine in his Great Grandmother's 75 Firebird, he got a bloody nose (still don't know how he managed that one) and bled all over the inside of the engine. I congratulated him, saying: Congrats, you're now officially a mechanic!" He laughed and kept on working. (tough kid)
