Sonsors with names on the cars do have an exposure. It is much more of an exposure if they provide renumeration to the vehicle owner.
If there were a catastrophic accident with death or injury of a bystander or a group of bystanders, you can bet that a prominent name on a nastalgic drag race vehicle would be at risk.

There may not be a successful suit, but there may be a suit none the less that may demand some type of defense. I call it "being dragged through the mud".
