VIN stamp fonts depend on the assembly plant of the car that the engine was installed...

The tread difference you are seeing has nothing to do with the size of the tire. That is the 67 model year to 68 model year FS Wide Oval tread. FS redesigned their Wide Ovals (sidewalls and tread)...
