Re: decode date for non-dot tire
Until the TIN (Tire Identification Number) format was standardized by the DOT in May, 1971, the tire manufacturers were free to use any proprietary format they wanted; pretty difficult to decode pre-DOT tire numbers without some really old paperwork.

Re: decode date for non-dot tire
Any info out there on how to decode a pre-'71 Firestone code?

Re: decode date for non-dot tire
What I think it stands for from my experiences:
MD-stands for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant located in Gadsden,Alabama. OS-I believe stands for the mold number. 43-I believe stands for the 43rd week of the year. 8-I believe stands for 1968,in your example. I am somewhat familiar w/pre 71 Firestones. What do you got? |
Re: decode date for non-dot tire
On a 6.50x14 Firestone Deluxe Champion there is a code which appears to be: 019045JU.
Thanks for any help, Paul |
