Re: Old T-10...help id??
The assembly date on it is Oct. 21, '63, which means it was never installed in a new Chevy. They were all converted to Muncies 6 months earlier.
IT is the latest design of the first generation of T-10s with the T10D-1 case and it's a close ratio (2.20 1st). It's a very good trans for not much more than 400hp, but it's not correct for any Chevy restoration. Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |

Hey Verne...I figured yoy would be the one that knows most about this trans... Thanks a million....so in reality it aint worth sH**t?? hehe...but seriously, the WK # doesn't really mean anything??? I thought that might be some kind of vin...guess not... anyway, I have a couple of muncies also that I am going to post...I believe that atleast one is a 64...I will thank you in advance for any help you can give!!! You are the man!!! Thanks again!!! Max

Re: Old T-10...help id??
I saw no VIN stamp on the case (and I wouldn't expect one with that date).
WK2133 is the assembly date stamping W= Warner Gear K= Oct. 21= 21st day of month 3= 1963 3= 3rd shift I'm not saying that trans is "worthless" at all; just not correct for any restoration. That T10D-1 case is the best (latest) version of the 1st design T-10 (before the Super T-10). The countershaft and drive gears were wider and mostly a hi-nickle content. The main shaft is still (and always was) the weakest link. The output end tended to twist easily right in front of the yoke. Before buying any used early T-10, always shove an output yoke in the tail end. IF it doesn't go all the way in, the shaft is twisted, possibly so much that it's cracked. So factor that in on your purchase price. Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |
