Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Columbus, OH

Does anyone have any information about this store circa 1969? What was the logo? What, if any, advertising did they place on the rear of each sale? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

------Hey, Mark,,, I went by that dealership many times during that period looking for a 69 Vette. The only one I got close to buying was a black L89 convert. I didnt buy it as it was already in the service dept. with the heads off. Cant remember exactly what was wrong but it was aluminum related. The idiots at the dealership had also covered the removeable hardtop with paisley vinyl. You wouldnt have believed it if you had seen it. Ended up getting a cast iron head 435 Riverside Gold coupe at a dealership on the west side of Cleveland. It froze a wrist pin and scored a cylinder wall before the 1000 mile mark so Im not sure to this day about that decision. Unfortunatly I cant help you on the logo. If I talk to any of my central Ohio buds and they have an answer Ill let you know.......Bill S

Bill,

Thanks. The next time I'm in CMH for an extended layover, I will try to make my way to the library to check for archived newspaper ads. I would like to reproduce some paper floor mats from that dealership.

Paisley...that sounds like trying a gimmick from the Mopar boyz.

Mark,

I recently had a nice experience with the Evanston, IL library, which was the neighborhood for a car dealer that is now out of business. I have a car from that dealership. I spoke to 3 diff. people in their research dept and they were all nice. They were able to go thru old phone books and they had a subscription to some periodical archives data base which provided me with info too. I recieved a decent pkg from them with photocopies of the several years of ads from the yellow pages and an article from the database subscription about the owner. They threatened to charge me $2.50 for effort, shipping, handling, but I never got the bill. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Good luck! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

P.S. Paper floor mats is a good idea! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Sam,

That sounds fantastic. Surely a public library in a city the size of Columbus would have a dept. that could help. I was telling Andy that I would like to find out if the dealership had a slogan in 69 so I could put it on the floormats.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Let me know how that turns out. Couple ads I was forwarded had logos and some cool graphics too. Good luck.

This logo has been around forever. All of the dash plaques have it, and the $5 t-shirts always have it too.
They did not put anything on their cars back in '69. There were 4 COPO Camaros sold at Maxton, with one being an original paint survivor that does not have a dealer sticker on it.

Andy, that is great info and that is a dang good looking slogan. That will look really neat on a set of floormats.

Thanks,

Mark
