That's a truck trans.,10 & 20 series if memory serves.
Those things were usually put through their paces rather severely.
At most I'd say 500-$800 used as is with 6 lug convertor.

Re: 69 TURBO 400

are you sure, i think it only has the 3 bolt converter and it has a short tail shaft, i thought trucks had long tail shafts

Can you post an image of the THM400 ID plate?

Re: 69 TURBO 400

The CJ prefix TH400 is indeed a 1969 396 series 10/20 Truck application.
Not all the trucks used the long tail shafts.Certain series of trucks didn't,and I believe this is one of them.
Can't say as I've ever seen a TH400 with a 3 bolt convertor originally,only the TH350's.
Do the 3 each have a triangular bolt strap welded behind them?
What's the outside Diameter?..it should be less then 13-1/8".
By chance does the convertor say,"Rebuilt By GM" ink stamped on the front of it?

Re: 69 TURBO 400

I had one of these that I sold last year for not much money. It needed a complete rebuild, but had a good clean case, was missing the converter.

Someone mentioned to me that the CX transmissions had some external difference(s) that would be the same as the truck TH400 trans. I personally could not see a difference with another Chevelle TH400 (1970 396 application) that was also sitting in the garage. I see the 6-lug converter mentioned in a previous post as I recall had the CX had a 6-lug converter as well. Are there any similarities that would make a CJ a good match to a CX in appearance or actual performance?

Re: 69 TURBO 400

The CX THM400 is no different ( on the outside ) than any
other automobile THM400 of the period. All the good stuff is inside!

Nuch

Re: 69 TURBO 400

Additionally, the 6-lug converter for the SHP applications
was indeed different than the truck series 6-lug converters.

If you look at the CX/CY topic under the "Technical & Restoration"
section, you will see that the SHP converters were stamped
differently to identify them as such.

Nuch
