1960s Classified Ads
After reading the other post on old car mags I thought it would be fun to post a few classified ads from early '60s HRMs.
Ed Roth's A pickup with his Slauson Avenue shop address. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../RothTruck.jpg Tommy Ivo's T being sold by second owner Bill Roland. After Norm Grabowski's pioneering T-bucket built in 1954-55 this car is said to be the second "Fad T" built. Ivo snuck over to Grabowski's house at night and took measurements and built this car. It now resides in the NHRA museum in Pomona. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...vo-RolandT.jpg Gene Winfield's spectacular for the time '50 Merc. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rcWinfield.jpg Nice pair of Ford rods. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...334RodPair.jpg C/MP '55 210 Delray. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../55CMPChev.jpg Deuce 3-window street machine. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...s/32Coupe1.jpg '21 T show rod. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...21TShowRod.jpg '55 Corvette engineering vehicle. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../55VetteXP.jpg HRM editor Bill Neumann's super-clean A roadster. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...nARoadster.jpg '34 4-door street/show rod. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...44-doorRod.jpg This one's for kwhizz: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../66427-425.jpg Clean Deuce street sedan. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...edanStreet.jpg Deuce race sedan. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...2DragSedan.jpg |

Re: 1960s Classified Ads
I've got many old issues of HMN from the 1975-90's that have similar classifed car & parts ads in them.Unreal how inexpensive & common things were back then compared to today..

Re: 1960s Classified Ads
My high school (1976-80) metal shop instructor had one of these and coincidentally he lived not far from this one.

Re: 1960s Classified Ads
Did you miss the 409/425 that's in the 38 Chevy Verne?.
Being a roadster, that Gran Sport would be #001 or #002.. And another good investment at $4500...valued more like 4.5 mil now?. As a side note to the GS stuff, I wonder what ever happened to that alum. SB that had 'Super' or something cast into it and someone was seeking info on here close to a couple years back...remember that one Verne?. Who knows if the post was genuine but I've always wondered since if the original SB's from the GS's and the XP819 had this cast into it?. Great thread Bill...it'll probably become a long one like the Rotting Muscle and Aircraft ones!. A few key examples could become a standard page we can print off and lay on the girls when they question our wisdom of buying more cars...that GS for 'Vette purchases etc?. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif |
Re: 1960s Classified Ads
I didn't miss the '09 in the coupe Pete. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif I love reading those old ads, like the '63 Z-11 at the end of the '64 season for $3K. Heck, I was 14 at the time and lucky if I had 3 DOLLARS in my pocket! Today's market value for these great cars and my pocket are still at about the same ratio! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gifVerne I do rememebr a thread about a block with "super" on it (supposedly) but it never ran it's course to some ending of understanding. I don't know what those early blocks had on them. I've never seen one up close (only a couple in cars and I had to stand behind ropes) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif |
