Installing Sun gauges w/ factory idiot lights
 

Looking to install a full set of Sun gauges on an original 70 L78 engine while keeping the functional idiot lights. I would like to keep all the factory senders in thier orig locations. Wondering how to do the oil pressure line, tee off of the sender down near the filter.? Wondering where to put the Temp sender, is there another threaded boss in the head/block/intake somewhere that will accept the Sun temp sending unit.? Thanks for the help. SULLY

You can use a "T-fitting" on the oil pressure line. If memory serves me correctly, the `70 L78 (and LS6) has the temp sender in the drivers side cylinder head, correct? If so, does your car have a 163 intake or a 569? If it has a 163, there should be a "spare" boss to use to add the aftermarket temp sender. I don't think the 569 has a spare boss, so you would have to go to the pass. side head to install the aftermarket sender there...provided there isn't anything occupying that space already (can't remember what/if anything goes there on `70 cars).

1970 L78 has the low profile intake..so no extra hole...driver's side head is the correct spot...but I don't think you can have both https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif..pass side head is for the TCS...if you aren't running the TCS system, then this would be the best spot for the temp gauge....never did a T fitting with the oil gauge...I assume it is mechanical..??? I wouldn't worry, the only "idiot" who can see the lights is the driver https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

We usta use the front fitting just above the oil pan for the oil pressure gauge line on a big block. Figured that would be the first place the oil pressure would be low.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the 291 BB heads (and all other BB heads)have threaded plugs either in the front or rear.? Could these feasibly be removed and put another one that is threaded (female) to accept a temp sender.?
