69 Camaro Master Cylinder Finish

I noticed several of the big block 69 Camaro's pictured in the GM Carlisle phots had the master cylinder painted black. What type gloss is the paint suppose to be? Did the big and small block master cylinders get the same finish? I've seen them natural and painted at shows and wonder what's correct. Corvettes are the only ones that I see that are consistently black. What gives?

According to Jerry MacNeisch's 69 book, 60 percent gloss black or natural finish. I have restored 2 original 69 Big block car's and one 69 Z28, they were all black. As was the distribution block and bracket, the one with the wire on it.
I am doing a 69 Nova SS 396 built 11/68 and it is Black.
If your doing one yourself, Epoxy prime first and it will never rust.

------Machined areas of the MC would be bare as they were machined after the cases were painted black. This follows for the dist. block as well..........Bill S

We've found it best to use the synthetic brake fluid as it won't harm the finish if it spills out.

Use Krylon 1613 Semi Flat black paint.. Works great. I just did mine on my 70 Nova also changed the entire brake system over to Dot 5 Silicone. The silicone fluid also will not harm anything nor does it hold moisture like the conventional, old DOT 3 crap.. That old Dot 3 stuff is nasty. A BIG THANKS TO MY FRIEND SYC MEMBER 68l30 (BIG STEVE) HERE ON THE BOARD FOR ALL OF HIS HELP WITH FLUSHING OUT, REFILLING AND BLEEDING THE BRAKE SYSTEM!!
