odd paint code on 68 Chevy II
 

None of my books show a G-6 code for a 68 Chevy II. Went and looked at the car today. 07C build date 745 interior (Gold vinyl buckets) and is a real deal SS L48 car 4 speed. It is clearly a "G" and a dash then a "6".

Just a guess here but....Ash Gold with the top (roof) painted a non std 68 color... GT was the Ash Gold/Palomino Ivory combo.... it's the only painted top color offered/suggested with Ash Gold.....6 may be a Black painted top.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Well, I think we figured it out (kinda) . The second digit being a number was a vinyl top designation. At least the numbers 1,2,3,4 were.... This car has a 6 so they must have had a five as well. I didn't think about a painted top but 1-4 were vinyl tops.

I wish it was mine. I have been trying to buy it for years and recently the owner died and the Son ended up with it. He asked me some questions about it and I got to really look it over the other day. It was a nice car but really got bad in the last few years from sitting (under a pool liner) ...
