1 Attachment(s)
Is it possible to identify the crank I bought together with a #512 block, just by these numbers ?

Re: 427 crank ?
Anders,
That's a '7115 ( L-88 -or- ZL-1 ) crankshaft. I have one just like it. Nice prize if it's std./std. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif Steve |
Re: 427 crank ?
Anders,
One more thought. If that crank belongs to the '512 block it came out of, well then you know what you may have. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Is there a code on the stamping pad? Steve |
Re: 427 crank ?
They didnīt make any L-88īs using the #512 biock, did they ?
The block was cast in November 1969. And it has been decked so there are no codes anywhere. Are there more things on that crank that would identify it as a #7115 ? |
Re: 427 crank ?
I just compared this crank with a 6223 I have in a shortblock, and the counterweights are the same size. The third one from the front is 3/4" (slightly less than 20 mm) on both cranks. Donīt know about the 6223, but the 7115 is crossdrilled. It has an X on the foremost counterweight that looks like it was made at the factory. The X is very deep into the crank.
Still think itīs an L-88/ZL-1 crank ? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: 427 crank ?
Anders,
I have '6223 cranks with the '6223 and 3856223 part designations. I have '7115 cranks with the '7115 and '71 part designations. Honestly, the width of the counterweights on your '7115 crank has me confused https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif You may wish to expand this thread over on the NCRS.ORG site as those guys can tell you for sure. Please keep us posted in you learn more. Steve |
Re: 427 crank ?
Alan Colvin's book on page 81 explains that the 3rd counter weight in the 427 is bigger than the 396 because of the weight of piston. he states the 396 is 7/16" and 427 is 7/8". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: 427 crank ?
So they must have made `7115 cranks for 396 engines then ?

Re: 427 crank ?
6223 is the 396 crank and the 7115 is the 427 crank.
