'71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
I just ran across this car on ebay and was wondering how you could determine if this is actually a real Z28 and why would the original owner sell the trim tag along with the original engine? Sounds kind of fishy to me. (Read Story)
ebay Camaro Also, I wonder why the seller recently bought this repro trim tag: ebay Trim Tag Do you think it's possible that this tag may end up on this car in the future? Is that legal? Just curious! Bill |
Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
The Tach and gas pedal look legit. Did not see a trim tag pic to verify if it showed Z28 near the bottom (Norwood only). Too bad the original engine was damaged.

"Did not see a trim tag pic to verify if it showed Z28 near the bottom (Norwood only)."
Paul, Did you read the post above you and the auction?? The tag is GONE so I have no clue how you can read it.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif LOL. Car will need some work. Hugger Orange was not a 1971 color and without a trim tag to verify color and interior this car will be difficult to correct. Rick H. |
Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
That car has alot of questions surrounding it. Where are the pics of the rear? What are the rear end date codes? Axle Codes?
What are the trans numbers? I would also want to see some type of positive proof that it is a real Z... Original Spring Tags... Numbers matching trans... something... Also I thought that 71 Z's had 12 bolts... I oculd be wrong on this thoug. It should have a rear sway bar and only one fuel line 3/8" |
Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
70 was the last year for the 12 bolt in the camaro.

Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
www.nastyZ28.com says... "12 bolt rearend WAS NOT USED AT ALL, all cars got the 10 bolt 8.5" corparate rear."

Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
1971 Z28's had a 10 bolt - 8.5"

Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
Hello
I am the owner of the car. I have no idea why the cowl tag was sold back in the day, thats the story I was told. The only reason I took and added a pic of the vin plate was to show an ebayer the vin plate because he requested it. It has all the features from z28.com on the car. Look, I dont have anything to hide. So please ask me for the facts and I will give you an honest answer. |
Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
oh and I am only asking in the low 20's for it, not 40

Re: '71 Z28 on ebay - Questionable?
Do you know how much it is going to cost someone to make the car correct? And without a trim tag to verify correctness, it's going to be a difficult time.
From the auction: "This Camaro Was Painted By A Reputable Local Professional. It Is A $7000 Brand New Paint Job, This Painter Specializes In Classic Cars." Do you realize that Hugger Orange is NOT a 1971 color and the $7000 dollar paint job to a purist is a mute point? I'm not sure why someone would stick that much money in to a paint job that is incorrect on a desirable car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif A person that specializes in classic cars would have researched and known that it was wrong. Where are the rear bumper guards? Found on ALL 1971 Z/28's. The correct Z/28 rally wheels and streering wheel would help as well. I think you're going to have a hard time selling that car to anyone looking for a correct Z/28. Car looks good but far from being correct. Good luck. Rick H. |
