Help with 2nd Gen Camaro Fan Shroud
 

I've hit a wall with the fan shroud on my '70 Z28 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif. I ordered two from Classic and they both had Caution Fan stamped on them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif, then drove over to NPD yesterday and the same problem, Caution Fan stamped into the plastic https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif. The original shroud doesn't have it and all the pictures I see of these restored 2nd gen Camaro's don't have that crap https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif,so who knows where I can get the correct fan shroud for a '70 Z28 Camaro? Good Luck, It's a super hard piece to find, you see the standard one every now and then but the large one you need is tough. All the GM one's now have the Caution fan on them you won't find the correct one in a catalog.

I have both the smaller and larger 1970 fan shrouds and the larger correct one for the Z is very difficult to find. Now I am not sure why but I found a guy that was parting out a 1978 Z and it had the correct shroud without the caution fan built in. I am not saying it was correct for his car but it is for mine and $45.00 was a deal. Be prepared to pay if you find the correct one.

Rick, do you have any pics of your short fan shroud?? I am still looking for a 6 pooper shroud just wondering what it looks like?? My car came with VO1 fan shroud & radiator. I have the org. top panel, but I am missing the shroud. Kim

I'll try and get a picture for you tomorrow, they're stored in my storage unit and I need to look for a couple different parts so I'll grab it will I am there.

Happy New Year everyone.

Here are the pictures of the two different 1970 fan shrouds and top panels. The two piece non-A/C car shroud is composed of part numbers 3973900 and 3973902. The correct shroud for Z/28 and VO1 is 3973910 and 3973912. Also note that the correct 1970 Z/28 shroud does not have caution fan on the top. You can also see the correct staples used in holding the two pieces together.

The smaller top panel used on non-A/C cars is part number 3966856. The correct top panel for VO1, cars with A/C and Z/28 is 3973904. The smaller panel came off my 1970 LA built 307 with 3 speed saginaw Camaro and the other panel is form my 1970 Norwood built Z/28. Both panels and shrouds wil be restored.

Rick Thanks for the pictures. The 2nd top plate in your pictures is the same as mine Has the same #s I also went out to garage and has a L in front of the part #. The two shrouds you show are different than mine the narrower shroud has ribs on it going across the shroud mine if you look at the org. picture has two ribs going the other way.

That shroud in your picture is the same shroud used on the big block. Very rare. If you still have it I would save it and get the 2 piece shroud for the Z/28. That is if you are using a SB.

The BB and VO1 option used the same top panel.
