Mike A. how did your garage floor turn out?

It is now time to have mine done. I noticed at Lowes today that Quick Crete (SP?) seems to have taken over the epoxy garage floor paint section. Looks the same as RustOleum to me.

I just did mine with Behr brand dual bonding primer and two coats of their "slate grey" one part epoxy coating. I used Sakrete brand caulk to fill any gaps between the wall and the slab. The Behr epoxy covers well and seems to be pretty tough. Haven't really put it to the test yet though.

Oh by the way...I got it at the Home Depot which I wouldn't normally recommend, but they do carry this product and it seems to work well for the $. Hope this helps.

The floor turned out real nice. I hand scrubbed the floor with soap & water and treated small areas with a degreaser. As of today I have no complaints about the Rust-Oleum epoxy shield paint and would use it again. It was easy to apply, looks great and it appears to be adhering well to the concrete. I put the Grand National in the garage and it did not affect the paint. I might suggest you buy a little more that you need and apply a generous coat.

My only complaint is that I did not spread out the “paint flakes” evenly on the floor but I can not blame Rust-Oleum for that. I will try to get my brother’s digital camera and take a few pictures.

Mike - Is it glossy or is there something you can put on it to make it glossy? Mine goes down tomorrow. Any trick to getting those little flakes even?

I didn't use any flecks when I did mine, I'm still not entirely sure they provide any real benefit. I know they tend to make the coating wear a little faster, but probably add a little traction also. I chose the smooth straight Behr epoxy route. It's a nice clean looking satin finish grey but can be tinted any number of colors. I think if you want to use the flecks and get the best possible distribution, I'd use a hand held grass seed/fertilizer spreader. They seem to spread seed pretty evenly, so I don't see why one wouldn't spread those little flecks just the same.

The finish was glossy and just think about were you are throwing the flakes in order for them to be evenly distributed across the floor.
