I was going to bid on this nos corvette hammer, just because I never seen one, [/ QUOTE ] Every 1965-1966 Vette with knock off wheels got one. Obviously it was used to strike the spinner. Lead will not scratch the chrome. Like a lot of things GM did ... they don't do much good. |
Re: NOS Corvette knock off hammer
After careful inspection it should be known this hammer is NOT original. It might be NOS from the warehouse of Corvette America but it sure ain't from GM.
I quote from the NCRS judging guide... "1966 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide" "Cars equipped with the optional quick take off (knock-off) wheels, option P48, have a lead headed hammer found under the retainer with the jack assembly. The hammer, except the lead head, is painted semi-gloss black. Original lead hammers were NOT welded at the conjunction of the head of the handle." I can clearly see this handle and head welded together. It is not original. |

Thats to bad,it would have been a good find for someone who needed it.

Re: NOS Corvette knock off hammer
I think over the counter service replacement GM lead hammers were welded, while production line ones were not. Another example of why NOS doesn't always mean "correct".
