Expert's investment thoughts
 

I see that the 2nd generation Z28's (with LT1's) are starting to appreciate quite nicely. I have been given the green light by the "boss" to purchase a collector car within the next 18 months. I think I might have asked a similar question before; if I have I apologize for the dupe. What do the experts see appreciating more, an LT1 Z28 or an LT1 Vette? I love them both but, since I have been told that this car will have to stay with me forever I want to make the best choice.
I know, if your not going to be able to sell the car who cares what it's worth? I just want to be able to get the best "bang for my buck" if I ever have to sell the car.

Vettes have been on the rise for a while, but the BIG money is in muscle cars. I would opt to find a real nice second generation Z28!

Remember, an LT1 Corvette can be purchased for much less than a Z28. I sold a very nice red/black '72 LT1 Corvette recently for $25,500. You can't get much of a Z28 for that amount. I do like the 2nd generation Z's.

Then buy the vehicle that does it for YOU and you'll never second guess yourself. Get the one you've always wanted.. Screw "appreciating values" and go live and have fun with it. I am certainly no expert about clasic cars but I have owned many and have a few now.Based on your statement the car will be with you for life! You certainly need to get the car that you LIKE!The car that pushes your BUTTON!The car that is going to make you HAPPY! To me that is what owning classic cars are about.But again to many people it is investment and profits.I only like to get cars that make me happy,and feel good.I am not into the hobby for the money at all!So get what is going to make you SMILE when you drive it and talk about it and show it to others!If you do that you will not go wrong! Just my 2 cents worth of advice!

This would be a tough choice. Two distinctly different style vehicles. There are some interesting differences in the two engines. The Camaro version uses different exhaust style manifolds and air cleaner housing assembly. It technically was never called an LT-1 designation, as a matter of fact, Duntov used to cringe when people referred to the Camaro powerplant as an LT-1.

I personally think that the LT-1 Corvettes are undervalued at the present time. The way Chevrolet marketed the package, it came only with manual transmission, standard with Transistor ignition and 2.5 inch exhaust, in Corvette form, for years '70 & '71.

I also think the '70 thru '72 Camaro Z28's are becoming increasingly popular with muscle car enthusiasts and that finding a pristine original might be getting very tough to locate.
I would think this decision would come down to LOOKS, what body style gives you goosebumps, I'd let your heart talk to you, then take the plunge, whichever one you pick, I'll bet you'll have a lot of enjoyment ahead of you!
