Real ZL-1 intake?

Does anyone have a KNOWN ORIGINAL ZL-1 intake they can look at for me? I am thinking of purchasing a 3933198 intake that is supposedly original. It has the expected grinding in the part number, however the "1" remains cast with only the last two digits ground out and stamped. Colvins book says that the last three digits should be ground off and that the "198" was hand stamped.Although the seller claims this is correct (even says Colvin has seen this intake personally and agreed that it is a real ZL-1) I feel it is a 3933163 that was "modified" by someone who didn't know enough to grind down the third digit. Can anyone compare it to a real, original ZL-1 intake and respond Thanks!

A friend of mine had three #198 intakes at one time. They were all "numbered" in different ways.
The clue is to look at how the plenum divider was removed. It has to have the right angle at the bottom.

If you search for subject: 3933198 ZL-1 intake w/hand stamp (03/17/04) you can see what I found on those three manifolds.

I've got two intakes cast in 1969 and the 198 is still there (not ground off).

Any way you could check the casting dates of those two 198's that you have? The one I'm looking at is a 6/11/69 casting date.

Anders-- I read what you had posted last year and it is very interesting. Let's see if we get some more info from others on the subject.

KevinCav the cast dates are 2-11-69 and 6-30-69, the interesting thing about the 6-30-9 casting is the 198 casting by the plenenum looks like the factory put those numbers over the top over some other numbers, you can see them peeking out a little beneath like they shifted alittle when cast.
