Color change opinions

I'm looking for opinions on how a color change will effect the value of a 68 Firebird I am doing. It was originally Mayfair Maize(Butternut Yellow) with a black top and black deluxe interior. When I got it, the paint had been changed to black and the car looked stunning. The paint was old so I have stripped the car to metal and am ready to repaint it. My dilema is I want to reapint the car black but I think the value may be in repainting the car the original color. I will drive the car for awhile but the problem is I like to restore cars more than I do keep them; so it will be sold in the near future to make room for the next. The original engine is long gone, but it has its PHS report so to me it is fairly insignificant. Any opinions on the color choice would be greatly appreciated. By the way, the car is a 68 400 HO 4 speed convertible https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif.

Thanks,

Jason

If you're just gonna flip it, paint it the right color.

Since it's a performance model, and, if you want to "flip" it for a quick sell, then repainting it in the original color might be the best way to go. "Originality" seems to be more and more desireable as musclecar prices climb (and climb, and climb).

On the other hand, people often buy cars based on how the color affects them (see: red cars everywhere). If you chose a highly desireable, not often seen color combination then you might get that buyer who gets emotional at the impact of the car's color and drops the big $$$ on your car.

I know of what you speak. My '67 Camaro is BY with black top and interior. I think it would look fantastic in Marina Blue with a white vinyl top and white nose and side pinstripes. Oh, and Cragar S/S wheels with redlines. But that's just me.

Mayfair Maize is not a common color on the Pontiacs, but seems to be well liked, paint it the original color. In the long run it will be easier to sell for the better dollar.

Sounds like it will be yellow. I would like to hold onto this and may do so. Firebird don't get the appreciation they deserve!
