SS wheels help
Hi would like some help with wheel codes for ss wheels. They read 4 9 YA the 4 is on the left side of valve if looking from the top then comes the 9 than the YA. Would like to know what these are for. Thanks
Rick I can send a picture if you need to see it i tried to post a picture but did not work. |
Re: SS wheels help
Thats the Date code.
4=month,April 9=day YA=Application code for SS Camaro-Nova-Chevelle-Elco. Look to the left of the 4.You should see a M with a small number next to it.Thats the MFG. code, example M4 for Motorwheel. Look under it to determine year rim was assembled. Example=M4/8...8 is for last digit of year,1968. Full YA assembled code is April 9th,1968 from Motorwheel. |
Re: SS wheels help
Thanks for the help mr 70. It has M 1 Than a 9 under the m1.
So these wheels should be for a 1969? Thanks again for your help. |
Re: SS wheels help
DOSE ANYONE KNOW WHEN THE SS WHEELS CAME INTO PRODUCTION AND WAS OFFERED ON CAMAROS
|
Re: SS wheels help
The only year Camaro received these wheels was on the 1969 model.
Colvin says the earliest SS 14X7 YA Magnum wheel found to date is 11/4/68. When you type in Capitol letters,it means you are yelling. Can you please not yell so often. |
Re: SS wheels help
No one has ever come up with a documented Camaro (build sheet, window sticker, shipper copy, or GM of Canada documentation) that shows the SS wheels were installed as an option on a 69 Camaro.

Re: SS wheels help
But GM documentation shows 314 of the N66 wheels were sold. Not shown on the Dec 68 order form, so only available early in the year.
Now the NK1 comfort grip steering wheel, that one is doubtful it was ever in a 69 car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |

Mark
This is interesting to me,as I am not that up on Camaros that much. So no RPO-Z27 equipped Camaros have docs to show RPO-N66? I know I have press kit photos & other lit that does show them wearing RPO-N66,(14X7 Sport wheel with Special Hubcap & Trim ring available with SS packages only). If found, what do Z27 buildsheets reflect in box #91? Chevelles-Elcos never show RPO-N66 seperately, but reflect 770FJ or 323FJ or 775 in box 91 for the 14X7 SS Magnum 500 wheel. |
Re: SS wheels help
I've seen those photos, too. And I believe I have option lists that show the N66. One photo shows the 1969 style Camaro for the 1970 model year (fall 69)wearing the 5 spokes. I always assumed they were LATE 69 production, not early. Interesting. Dave |
