VIN # in Registry

There are a lot of different registries on the web for different types of cars.

I notice that some registries only show a partial VIN.

What can people really do with your VIN #? Why not just show the whole VIN #?

I'm not totally sure what you are referring to, and can only relate to what we have on this site. We only show the last 6 digits because the first 7 are always the same, so there is no need to clutter the info page with redundant information. Along with the last 6 digits, we show all of the additional information just in case someone were to try to fraudulently sell a car as a Yenko by showing just a number.

I think mostly its just that people are naturally paranoid... same reason you see license plates blocked out in pics, when the actual car is sittin on the street 24/7 with the plate displayed to the world.

If you were to give out the full vin some unsrupulious person can get there hands on it and run the vin, get keys cut, find your address and either steal it or strip it down. Im not sure about old cars but i know that new cars all you need is a vin and a good story and you can go to the dealership and get keys cut. This day and age in the information era it's not hard to come up with many scams to screw people over. The more info they have on you the easier it is to screw you over.

This for a Maco registry, so the cars range from 68 - 82 Corvettes. Don't think you can get keys made... somebody did mention the possibility of applying for a title though. I guess that I'll ask for the whole VIN #, but only display the sequence number. Would that be safe?

Amen! This is the problem I'am encountering as I attempt to gather info on the Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS Camaros. Most know owners are helpful once they understand that I simply want to record the VIN so the cars don't get lost over time. On the other hand, a very few owners are reluctant and I understand their position. I want to respect everyones privacy.

In short, I'am asking any Initmidator owners to contact me so they can be included on the informal VIN list. Any info I gather will be strictly confidential and only shared with other owners.

Thanks for any help Gentleman and Ladies.
