69 LOS Trim Tag info
 

Can someone please help me with this trim tag on a 69 Camaro I found in a barnyard here in Iowa. I can decipher all but the code that is where the "X" code usually is. I will give you the whole tag info just in case the other digits help. THanks in advance!

08 E G0038

The car has AC, PS, AT, and a strange looking bracket off the bottom of the master cylinder. No holes, just a bracket that is bolted on the two inboard nuts of the master cylinder. Not much left of this car.....the VIN tag in the dash has been conveniently removed. That is kind of what has me curious about the car. Decode for body number: 100755

08E = Built the Fifth week of August.
69-12437 = Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
721 = Standard Medium Green Bucket Seats.
59-S = Lower Color is Frost Green and the Vinyl Top Color is Midnight Green.
G0038 = internal plant scheduling code.


Look under the passengers side cowl below the window and see if you can see a Partial VIN. Only Norwood (NOR) cars have "X" codes on the trim tags.

Not going to be easy to see the hidden VIN because the air condenser is still there. Don't you have to remove the cover to see it? So, the code I couldn't "decode" is an internal LA plant code that really doesn't mean anything to us collectors? In other words, it appears as though this car is not one worth saving? It is pretty far gone, and truthfully would have to have been something somewhat special to even go through the car. No front clip, no glass, etc., etc.

If you get a chance I would like a pic of the Trim Tag and what ever Partial VIN you can find for my records. If the car is that far gone Ill list it as such.

To my knowledge, the 69 Van Nuys built cars did not receive a 'x' code on the trim tag. It only applyed to Norwood built cars. There was a 'early' and 'late' tag installed depending on the build date. The LOS cars are becomming elusive, particularly the 67 and 68s'.

Perhaps someone else can shed more light on the subject.

There was only one tag for LA cars - no early / late tag at that plant.

I'd be real curious on the partial VIN too (or a pic of the cowl tag). No need to pull anything other than the cowl vent grille. The CRG link that Jeff posted has the location info. Here's the pic: http://www.camaros.org/cowlvin.jpg

My 69Z trim tag has a 10C/S568 internal plant code#- the letter in the internal plant code sequence apparentely represents the exact day of the month (i.e.S=19th day/=10C)

There was an early/late trim tag(LOS/VN) but the cowl tag remained "L"..although In the Macneish book they reference a font change at one point https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
