402 block numbers
I bought a 68 Chevelle SS 396 a few years back and someone had put a 402 in block #3999209 in it. The engine pad has XXW stamped on it. Is this a truck block? Anyone know what this came out of? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 402 block numbers
This Chevelle has the Buick interior that was installed from the factory because of a strike at GM in 68-69. This motor does not match the POP I have with the car. Just wondering if something weird was done with the motor. I think it replaced somewhere along the line. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 402 block numbers
KNAPPY,
Jeff seems to have found it. According to Chevy by The Numbers it was used in 1972 on Passenger cars, Chevelle and Camaros. It's supposed to be a 402/240hp, 2 bolt main block according to the book, but he also states that there's a lot not known about this block. I looked for the XXW code and couldn't find it in the book. Maybe it's originally from a truck. Chevy By the Numbers doesn't say a whole lot about trucks. |
Re: 402 block numbers
Its strange this block was used from 68 to 72. I can't see the block date codes but I suspect it is a 72 block but the intake is a 69 date code. The POP said it is suppose to be a 325 hp ET code motor. Thanks for the info. Now I have to find who makes the repo seat covers for the Buick interior that came in this car. Any ideas??

Re: 402 block numbers
Check on Team Chevelle.I thought someone said they found a company who reproduces this Buick interior. But I may be mistaken. It was awhile ago.
There is a 4Spd Black Cherry 1970 L78 Chevelle over here that has the #290 block in it.It is a CE engine, and is dated 1972.The owner claims he bought it with that engine in it in 1978.He called the early owners and realized it was put in the car in 1972,as a Warranty engine. His is a #290 two bolt,to replace the original 4 bolt L78. I have never seen this block as a 4 bolt block,Have any of you? |
