Don Yenko wins Citrus 250
As most followers of Don Yenko know, he won the 1969 Citrus 250, held at Daytona. The car he drove to victory was listed as a 1969 Camaro, but was in fact a 1967/1968 Smokey Yunick built Camaro.
Well, I was just visiting with David Tom, who is a T/A series historian. Come to find out, he once owned this car, before selling it to Vic Edlebrock. I have always been interested in this car's where abouts, and history, as I have several items related to the car and this race, including the plaque he was given for winning the race, several original articles from the race, and numerous pictures of the the car. Hopefully some time in the future these items can be re-united with the car. Now, if only someone can find Don's '69 roadrace Camaro and the Yenko sponsored Hedrick 1969 Camaro drag car. I have pictures of both, just have not heard where the cars have gone. |

Re: Don Yenko wins Citrus 250
Tom,
This is the Yunick car you are referring to! Vic has campaigned it on the west coast in vintage races, it was here in Seattle last July 4th... http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/...aro/clip_4.jpg http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/vintage/camaro.html -Sam https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Don Yenko wins Citrus 250
It's one of my favorite cars, full of many Yunick "tricks" including narrowed drip rails (!). Here is a Hot Rod arcticle with some details.
