Doug Thurley Headers

Does anyone know what is going on with Doug Thurley and his headers. I odered a new set of headers for my ZL-1 right after I came limping home from collinsville with the blown headgasket and still do not have my headers. Summit tells me they are back ordered at Doug's. Now they are telling me March

Mark;
Thanks for the tip, but I'm trying to get the Thorleys since thats what was offered on the Yenko cars - just don't know what's taking so long, can't take this long to put the black ceramic coating on https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

I have the black ceramic coating, both inside and out on the exhaust system of my race bikes.

Very durable, and the pipes seem to cool down and disapate heat much faster.

I have not received my headers yet and I am going with the shiny headers, rust resistant. Oh god I forgot what they call those. Some high tech term. Anyway. I will keep you posted. Capt. Carl www.batterytoppers.com

What'd the black ceramic cost? Does it keep it's lustre? Just curious, I haven't seen any in person.

Re: Doug Thurley Headers

I went with the flat black ceramic coated inside and out. I have Doug Thorley 1 7/8" headers on my 396/375. I like the flat black look. They have kept their coating on but have gotten kind of gray or a lighter shade of black on parts that get the hottest. I do believe they are cooler running than others I have used....I think mine were about $325 to have them blasted and coated.

Re: Doug Thurley Headers

The Thorleys were around $450, and the ceramic coating was another $150, so approx. $650 with shipping. They are 1 5/8 tubes with 3", 3bolt collectors. I wanted the flat black look, since the high lustre jet-coat will cause a deduction at the serious shows. I think the Thorleys had a sticker on them, anyone know what it looked like back in the day? I'm sure it burned off pretty quickly.

Re: Doug Thurley Headers

Do they really take off points for having a coating on headers? That's one of the reasons I'm not going to worry about judging when my 69 crossram JL8 car is finished. I'd rather have my parts properly protected than worry about losing points. Weren't the headers back then just painted with black paint which would burn off in about a week anyway? So in reality, a rusty header would be the only correct finish, right?
