1966 Nova/Chevy II 12 Bolt 3.73 Posi Rearend

I recently bought a 12 Bolt rearend out of a 66 Nova. Casting #3852980N Axle code FP 1220G. My plan was to put in my 69 Camaro as a direct bolt in for the narrowed width. It was more than I wanted to spend but I passed on one 2 years ago and haven’t seen one since so I grabbed it. I’m not new to building cars or restoration I’m just not a numbers guy and build things how I need them to work for me. With that said I wanted to stick to a 12 bolt as opposed to a 9 inch which would have been an even cheaper option buying a hi-po Currie off the shelf.

I’m in the process of doing a full rebuild to freshen it up. The more I research it though I don’t see anything similar currently for sale. Exactly how rare is this thing? I read somewhere that there were only like 650 of these produced. Was that all the 66 nova 12 bolts or just the 3.73 option? Wasn’t planning on cutting it up but I’m wondering if it’s worth passing it along to someone that not just wants it but NEEDS it before I transfer my Wilwood disc brakes from my current setup and put it in my car. Would love to get everyone’s input as well as any related information about these nova rearends. Thanks!

Do not cut it up or modify it, that will diminish its value. These rears are out there (always seem to be a few for sale on marketplace), not as plentiful as camaro/nova, but some are out there. These rears didn't just come in L79 cars, a lot of factory 4spd/v8 Novas got these rears. I imagine that a factory 3:73 stamped ratio adds a bit to the mix. GLWS

It's not going to be a bolt in. The spring perches are not in the same location and you will have to cut them off and weld them back on. I recommend that you sell it and buy an aftermarket 12 bolt already set up the way you want it. Ordering a custom width doesn't cost any extra. The after market housings are much stronger than the factory housings, and you can get them with the press on 9 inch Ford axle bearings, which will eliminate the C clips. It's a much better rear end. I was a Moser Engineering dealer for 15 years and I sold a lot of these.
