69 COPO block on BaT

Did anyone see this: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/l72-chevrolet-427/

Complete "L72" engine built using a decked 69 427 block with partial VIN stamp 19N637733 by the oil filter. So a block form a COPO Camaro apparently.

124379N637733 hits on the online NMVITIS system as being a car that there has been a title issued and/or a registration issued some time after the NMVITIS system’s beginning coverage date (which I believe was around 2009).

So very possible that the car is still out there.

I posted this info to the auction with a tag to winner of the auction. We will see if the censors at BaT let it post. (They don't particularly like me and censor ALL my posts, because I have pointed out too many fake or transplanted VIN tags on Chevelles in their auctions!)

COPO Motor....

I'm no COPO expert, but a 1969 vintage big block chevy wouldn't have 391 heads. They were a 1967 item...pretty sure the 840 heads would be the correct ones for a 69 motor.

That's correct. That why I referred to a COPO "block" in the title, and not a COPO "engine".

It appears from the auction write-up and comments that someone just gathered up a bunch of parts to build an L72 spec engine, and had no idea that they had used a COPO block in the process.

Why they did not spend the extra 5 minutes to find a set of date-correct 840's is a mystery.

Hope it finds its way to the original car someday

Looks like a C 19 9 casting date, 512 block.
That would be an early May VIN.

The engine in my Beaumont is a 4 bolt Jan 1969 512 block with matching 840 heads. There are no numbers on the pad. I never saw any numbers by the oil filter but I didn't spend any time removing paint to see it better.
