White 1962 250 gto at MCACN
 

I can’t remember who said here but someone said this white Ferrari at MCACN this year would sell for more than every car put together at MCACN. I said not even close. I was laughed at. It sold for 38 mil. Id say its pretty safe to say all the cars values together at MCACN in 25 is a good bit higher then 38 mil. Apparently this 250 gto was supposed to go 50-80 million. Interesting

I wasn't laughing! I knew this 250 GTO would come nowhere near the estimate (or Hagerty value) of $60~$72 Million.


At $35M hammer, the 640 cars at MCACN would have to average LESS than $55K to be worth LESS than this GTO. I would guess that the AVERAGE value of the cars at MCACN is higher than $55K.

People there told me they would have bid on it if it had the original engine. On a side note, my good friend bought the trump Ferarri!

There are not “a lot” of buyers for $38mm cars.

The 250 GTO is one of my favorite cars of all-time but I have to admit how underwhelmed I was seeing a white version in-person. So I thought the color may have had some impact on price but wondering if it had a catastrophic damage in it's history as well.

I think the color hurt quite a bit. The majority of the original 39 cars were red; and that is what most are used to seeing. But, they look amazing in Silver as well. I believe there is at least one that has been silver from day one. I also believe the silver one brought north of $70m, but it was a private sale, so no auction results to review. That also means that one can never be certain that the reported price was the actual selling price. Seems funny to me that we are discussing a car that "only" brought $38m!!! I fully understand the pre auction estimates based on prior reported sales. But like Stefano said, not a huge segment of the population even able to consider bidding on such a car. The ones that can would much prefer one in the iconic red. Even had it brought $70m, I don't know that would eclipse the value of EVERY car at MCACN 2025. There were some spectacular rides.

I heard the 70 million dollar number being thrown around at MCACN and the math nerd in me was prompted to do some simple arithmetic. With 640 cars present the average value of them would need to be $109,375. That’s actually an interesting number because there were many cars north of that & many cars under that. It just might be accurate but it’s probably just a moot point anyway since the car failed to bring in that giant number and landed at half that lofty estimate. On a crazy side note, if you were to up the MCACN cars to 641 by including the Ferrari, they would all still fall short of the $142 million 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Ulenhaut Coupe which is probably the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen in my life!

David MacNeil of WeatherTech Floor Mats reportedly paid $77,000,000.00 for his a few years back and there is another one not on the maket but which reportedly has a standing offer of $80,000,000.00. Others have sold in the pluis or minus $40-50mm range.
