1967 Yenko Camaro 124377N241801 at Mecum
 

I see this 1967 Yenko Camaro, which is on the list of 107, is at the Mecum Kissimmee Auction. Lot F340. Does anyone know the history of this car?

The ad is inaccurate; says it was shipped to Fred Gibb Chevrolet. I know 241901 is a Fred Gibb sold Yenko. The owner must have misread the list.

From my understanding, Gibb only sold 2 Yenko Camaros in 1967, and they are both accounted for.

It’s in the second batch of 35. Flagged in the registry for absence of conversion paperwork at this date. Records show that it was sold through Barford Chevrolet. Missing Yenko tach & gauges (which all converted cars had) - possibly poorly restored or never converted. Needs body VIN stamps verified. Registry has no ownership history indicated at this time.

the history of the 1967 Yenkos is a bit confusing because it changed a lot in the time period when the cars were built and sold from Nov. 1966 (Stompers) to March of 1968 (YS-760)

The 107 list is not a list of 1967 Yenko 427 Camaros

YS-737 is included on the list of about 60 vins for 1967 Yenkos

I have not seen the documentation on YS-737
not sure if they contacted Vince about the car.
He may be the only one with paperwork on it .

The July 16 1967 article states that Dick Harrell will have a new shop at St. Louis International raceway. This did not happen. Harrell had a small shop in St. Louis not far from a rail yard and not far from Barford Chev.
Yenko drop shipped Camaros to the rail yard where they were stored waiting for Harrell 427 conversions.

Some cars were stored at Barford Chev and they sold some of the cars

Barford raced one of the Grand Sport Corvettes

Barford’s Corvette was not a Grand Sport despite appearances. I was actually great friends with a prominent member of their Corvette pit crew. When I inquired about the ‘67 Yenko’s he absolutely did not remember them being there. He spent his entire life heavily involved with go-fast stuff and would’ve remembered new 427 Camaros. If the cars were there on the lot they must’ve sold extremely fast within days.

Warren D. Does not have any paperwork on this car showing it being converted to 427.

Kim Howie owned YS742. He sold it in 2006. It was sold through Barford Chevrolet also. Here is a link to his for-sale ad. He was unsure if it was a converted car. It was missing the original hood, and had emblems that look like 396 emblems, could they be 427 emblems? The 1968 picture is from the 2nd owner who told Kim it had a 283 in it when he bought it, with a standard hood, not the SS hood it would have been built with. It was also a 4K - car.

The COPO connection letter said it came with traction masters, tuned exhaust headers, scattershield and special plug wires.

I do not know who owns the car now, I believe it was bought in 2006 by another member of this site.
