1970 Gas Tank Aftermarket Problem

7 Attachment(s)
I am planning on installing SPECTRA PREMIUM Tank (puchased over 20 years ago) in
my current 70 Z28 restoration......Ran into the neck opening problem as the Spectra
Premium 1970 tank has End Piece that is made for 71+ NON Vented Cap and the
nothces are clocked wrong so lettering doesnt sit level like OEM

1) I need 1970 Camaro Donor OEM GM neck for my Spectra Premium Tank

2) Will another 1970 GM brand have same neck that can be soldered into my Spectra Premium Tank...............2 inches OD 8 1/2" long (tank to end)

3) I am also thinking I could change only the END Piece if I can buy a new or donor used 1970 piece
to replace the Spectra Premium NON 70' End Piece

4) I called QUANTA on Friday with no answer.....Dont know but guessing their tanks
are mfg off shore and that correct END piece wont be available ???

if you plan to unsolder the spectum cap end --- just re-clock it --- possible ?

CamarosRus 12-20-2025 09:15 PM

the Spectra Premium 1970 tank has Neck End Piece that is made for 71+ NON Vented Cap and the notches are clocked wrong so lettering doesnt sit level like OEM, AND the OEM 70
Cap doesnt fit the 71 Style End............

I dont know how to make myself more understood...............

IF I can find a new or used end piece that takes 1970 cap , I will have it soldered on with correct clocking

I think what pdphilson is saying is, what can’t the current neck be turned so the cap is oriented in the correct position?

Are you saying the cap doesn’t fit the neck at all?

Jason.............I did say "AND the OEM 70
Cap doesnt fit the 71 Style End............"

and its my conclusion Id rather unsolder and change
the end piece (where cap fits) than unsolder
neck at the tank

I stopped replying to your posts a long time ago because I felt you were trolling to lash out people for being wrong and this one is no different. Why mention a cap is clocked wrong and post pictures of the clocking if that cap was never correct to begin with? I have never seen a thank you, praise, or gratitude. I’m back into the shadows on your posts.

Happy Holidays Guys,

Jason, The above OEM /Assy Line Cap does not fit the Spectra Premium GM42A tank
that I purchased over 20 years ago.......

I am talking/writing with Spectra Premium & Quanta to hopefully buy a correct neck assy or the piece on top of neck where cap engages

Come on guys, it's too close to the holidays and let's be merry and jolly.
Chuck, your info did have me confused as well when showing a cap that does not fit clocked wrong.
I'd wait till you have some answers from Quanta, etc., and then go from there.
Let us know what information you receive.
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!
