Day 2 Build
Thinking of doing a day 2 Build on my 69 Camaro. I have a 454 .030 with 11-1 TRW pistons Any suggestions for a hot street cam Hydraulic Flat tappet , ? Suggestions for Aluminum Cylinder Heads? And Headers that will fit? Car does have P/S Thks for your help Tom

I love the solid flat tappets over the hydraulic, the key being quality rockers and polylocks.
Howards offers a great hot street sft cam, it's 238 duration and around 550 lift. Have that cam in the '69 SS and a copy of it custom ground in my '66 L72 vette. Love them both. If anything, next time I'll go a step hotter. Both engines are around 9.4 compression. |
We used a Comp 305 magnum in my brother's LS6 many years ago. That was a hot engine in a '69 Z28.
I used a Comp CB XE284H-10 in my 427 for a while. It was a good cam, but I just don't like hydraulic lifters, so I switched it for a solid. |
day 2
Freddie .... you have a lot of knowlege of Big block stuff What header will fit the best with power steering that wont be excessive cost?

Hooker Super competition DO NOT clear power steering.
Hooker Competition fit but are close at the box. There is another thread on this somewhere Gary |
Any modern aluminum cylinder head kinda kills the "Day 2" vibe, in my opinion. Snowflake heads would make it more accurate.
Dougs fit good as do Hedman headers in a big block Camaro with power steering. |
Aluminum Heads...New to Old.
I have seen engines where a 'crafty' shop gave the new heads a vintage look...check out this article.
https://www.hotrod.com/how-to/1967-c...ke-vintage-l88 The newer aluminum heads look shiny...with a little elbow grease you can replicate the older 'cast' look. Good luck, -wilma |

I have a 572 BBC with a 9.8" deck height cylinder heads build using my original power steering. Doug's Headers part number D-319-B fit perfectly with my power steering. Highly recommend to "pre-set" the headers into the engine bay before engine installation. Another lesson learned is the clearances are so tight that I had to install brand new subframe bushings as the old ones had collapsed a little bit to get clearance under the floorboard.
