1970 M20 stampings
3 Attachment(s)
Picked up this 1970 M20 out of Nova last week (according to VIN stamp). This was a very early on take off from the car and stored forever. What is interesting is that it still has the WB factory ink stamp on it (see pic) which matches the original metal tag still attached as well. Figured this could help folks doing factory restos.

The M20 in my 73 Camaro still has its WD ink stamp, but no metal tag. From what I've been able to ascertain, metal tags may have been phased out by 1973.

M20 Transmission...
Nice piece Sully....
I thought you were cleaning out your garage :smirk: Looks like a May date...what is the VIN..?? can't quite read it... -wilma |
Got it for a song as they say, couldn't pass it up... Ironically, it is very close to my 70 L78 dates (2nd week may 70 build)

It looks the VIN stamp "could be" 10W552530. Assembly line man must have not been in the mood that day, didn't hit it clean on the pad. Maybe the tech gurus here on the site can dial in on it a little better than me.?

The trans build date of E08 is in 05B body build range. If a the car had a 05B build week, the VIN should be 10W332530. If it had a 05D build week, then 10W352530. Look at the main case below the bolt left of the metal tag. Is there any trace of the same stamped WB? Thanks, Greg |

I saw another transmission with a 73 style font "WD". In also had the same rubber stamp "WD" on the lower main case. Just below the bottom left side case cover bolt. That stamp could have been the replacement code for the metal tag. Greg |
My 70 L78 Nova is an 05B with a VIN ending in ...334376.

Given what Greg stated above and another look at it, tells me that this may be a Camaro (N) trans. Stamp kinda now looks more like a "N"orwood than a "W"illowrun stamp.? Could be a wrong, probably am...
