'61 348/4-sp Impala Super Sport Convertible

The seller is claiming this one is an original Super Sport - sure looks incredibly nice - but I don't know these cars well enough to know how you'd prove it.

If real, this is one of 453 built in '61. Neat with the bench seat and 4-speed with the consolette.

Looks like the resto is showing its age...some bodywork coming through, but I wouldn't kick it out of the garage.

I would love to know the history of this car. Many of you have heard me talk about an exact copy of this car I went to look at when I was 16 (1977) and had just gotten my license. I believe the car was in the New Brighton area of Mpls. It was a very original low mileage car in these exact colors. The entire bottom of the car, firewall and many of the engine compartment components were covered in a layer of Cosmoline to protect them. He was asking $500 and the ONLY reason I walked away from it was because he had a coat hanger attached to the rear of the generator as he said it wobbled too much. I wanted a NO issue car for my first car so I walked away! 1st big muscle car mistake I made in my life. It was a beautiful car. Wish I had taken photos of it then.

Cool update Rick, do you recall if it was in a Newspaper Ad also month in ‘77?
This car has been and sold at multiple auctions over the years, earliest I saw was this 2008 BJ Palm Beach which notes the Original WS w/ it then but no mention of it in any auctions since…

I can all but guarantee that it was the Mpls Star and Tribune as that was where I got 90% of my leads. No idea on the month. My birthday was in March so I would assume March through July or August of 1977? If I recall, the weather was nice but not hot so I am thinking early spring or late fall. That was a LONG time ago so just guessing. Seems to me the owner had a few cars and projects and had a lot of 'junk' around his yard. I do not think the car was kept in a garage and was parked outside from what I remember.
