Too many are passing
 

There's been a lot of great musical artists from the '60's and '70's passing in the last few years.So like many who grew up in that era it's got me thinking of the concerts I attended.My two great passions were cars and music.Here in Ottawa was the Capitol Theater,an old movie theater built in the 1920's.It sat around 1800 people and a lot of musical acts performed there back in the day.For around 6-7 bucks you got an up close seat to some great shows! I was fortunate enough to see Jimi Hendrix,The Who,Cream,Wilson Pickett,The Turtles,Tommy James and the Shondells,The Hollies,Ravi Shankar.We also had the Civic Center where I saw Sly and the Family Stone,The Boss,Billy Joel,Tom Petty,Bob Dylan,Dire Straits,George Thorogood,Huey Lewis,Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.And one of my favs Stevie Ray Vaughan.Who have you seen?! Almost all the concerts I have attended were while I was at college and the individual or group performed on campus: The Youngbloods at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The 5th Dimension, The Guess Who, Neil Diamond at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID. These would all have been in the early 1970's. At a car show at Cal Expo in Sacramento I saw Jan Berry (just himself and a band, but not Dean Torrance). I've seen my favorite group The Beach Boys (how could you not love a band that sang about girls, cars, and the beach) 8 times in person. The first time was in 1983 at Candlestick Park after a Giants game; to the best of my recollection all 3 Wilson brothers were there along with Al Jardine and Mike Love. I then saw them 3 times at Cal Expo, 3 times at South Shore Lake Tahoe, and the last time at Reno in 1996.

That must have been a great show! You caught Janis just before she left in October.I saw Tina in the mid '80's during her Private Dancer Tour.Saw Ike and his terrific band at Bluesfest 2001.Great show! It was a bit of a P.R.show also cause his band members were tossing "I LIKE IKE!" Tshirts out to the audience.Guess cause of the allgations that he abused Tina years ago.

Music and cars and loud car stereos made up my early years, well it still exists today! Ha!
Saw Alice Cooper in 74 when he was doing snakes, chopping off heads and lots of weird stuff! Saw Van Halen in 79 and as we all know Eddy was insane! Many more I could list but recently, April, I saw Sammy Hagar in Palm Springs California. He is still bringing it well into his 70s and have to give him credit he, Michael Anthony, and Joe Satriani were shredding and had a great time and I was with my oldest kid who’s in her 30s. It’s fun to enjoy the music. We listen to with our kids!


Famous places to listen to concerts or see concert in Detroit was Cobo Hall, and the Olympia. The Olympia was where the Red Wings played and I saw Gordie Howe. Lots of great memories.

We're lucky to live in the live music Capitol of the World, Austin, TX. This year we've seen Three Dog Night (only one dog left), Chicago, Rod Stewart, Heart, Tedeshi Trucks, Bob Schneider. We're going to see Chris Issac in July. We love Austin City Limits and we head there most every month. We've seen Santana, Janet Jackson, Kenny Logins, Robert Plant and many others last year. If the first generation of rock and rollers come to Austin, we will go see them.

Ted Nugent and Kansas at a roller rink - his first solo record post Amboy Dukes. Ears were still ringing at Thanksgiving dinner the next day.

Aerosmith, Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer, and Rick Derringer - was about 200 out that day and the FD kindly turned the hoses on us after they put the fire out ...

Just heard of Brian Wilson's passing. First saw The Beach Boys locally in 1978, seems like they all toured through here in the '70s and '80s.

My big regret is never seeing Pink Floyd live, but Brit Floyd is a great experience. Dave D. post up that pic you have of the usual suspects from Peoria last year.

This weekend going for the third time to see "I Am He Said - A Neil Diamond Celebration" by The Killer Vee's, including four members of Bobby Vee's family. A great show.

Later this month seeing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, looking forward to that, first time for me.
