1967 14x6" disc brake Rallys marked 6 A3 instead of DG
 

There's a one family owned Marina Blue 325hp 67 SS396 on BaT right now. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...lle-ss-396-10/ They have the original wheels separate and I asked for pics of the wheel code and they posted pics of a Rally marked 6 A3, which I've never seen before. I did a quick search and found one on EBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/204244093156. I thought I had a handle on all the 1967 Rally wheel quirks and then BOOM, a new one .

I would be interested to see the stampings on the outer perimeter.

That 6 A3 code and it's variations are normal to non-rally 14x6 wheels in '67, but not unheard of to be found on a '67 rally, or "Disc Brake Wheel" as they were know back then.

I had read Jeff Helms' excellent synopsis of the "6, 6A, 6A 3" wheel markings in this old thread, but never saw a reference to Rally/disc brake wheels being marked this way: https://www.chevelles.com/threads/a-...l-rims.392283/

Jeff Helms' input to the auction:

"The A3 6 stamped rallies are indeed “pre-DG” wheels, and are generally believed to be from the very first runs of 67 Chevelle disc brake wheels made by Kelsey Hayes before the beginning of the 67 model year.

This being a Framingham car would explain that. Framingham was primarily a BOP plant, and made very few Chevelles in 67 as compared to all the other plants. Note the body # on this car is only 831, meaning that by the second week of December (3.5 months into production) the Framingham plant had only built 831 SS coupes. And disc brakes were rare themselves in 67, so it is very easy to believe that Framingham would still have some rally wheels on hand at that point from the first batches shipped to them."
