Cadiz Ohio Yenko's

Little Cadiz Ohio was hot bed of musclecars back in the day. 5k population but all highly paid union coal miners.

Numerous Yenkos and Copos. People would come from surrounding states to shop at Coultraps Speed shop. Coultrap installed everything they sold. People would drop off a brand new car in the morning and pick it up later in the day with a new intake, carb, headers and wheels etc. Doc Dixon worked behind the coungter and Coultraps sponsored at my last count over 50 cars including Fink Bros out lof Zanesville, Hiner and Miller from Akron etc. Sponsored cars from PA as well.

Here is a 69 Yenko Chevelle in ad out of Cadiz. The guy who owned the car still lives there. I'm going to visit him later this week. He is in his mid 80's now. The Hemi and Buick GS are all within a few miles of Cadiz.

The 67 Yenko in the pictiure still sits in a garage in Cadiz. It is either the first one made or the first one sold I cannot remember. The original owner got mad at Don Yenko and took a screwdriver and yanked of the emblems and threw them at Don from across the parking lot.

That Camaro is awesome, and it's so good to hear that there are a lot that have survived. Hopefully the families will take care of them when the orig owners pass on.

the 67 Yenko was originally a red car 05D build date

The brother in law of the owner of the Yenko Chevelle messaged me on Facebook.. The owners name was James Augalbaugh. He traded it in 1971 for a 68 440 GTX. He is still alive and kicking and is going to find photos.

The original owners name was John Vetek(also from Cadiz).

I wonder if this car is still among the living.

Cadiz is the hometown of Clark Gable ( Gone with the Wind movie). The Camaro is indeed a red car and not the first or last one built. The current owner is the third owner ….he is leaving the car to his 2 sons. His name is Frank Mattern and he owns Mattern Tire Service. The car does not have any of its Yenko/factory drivetrain. I saw the car close to 20 years ago and told Frank to take the POP from the glovebox and put it in a safe place. I asked him if he wanted me to help him find the original owner and I did and his name was George Powell from close to Pittsburgh. I was able to get the two together and they were both happy to hear from each other. Frank’s father owned a Dodge dealership and Frank always had cool, hot rods thanks to the old man.

does anyone know the YS number for this 67 Yenko ? and was it sold at Yenko Cheverolet?

Copo_Cartel 06-30-2023 04:04 PM

Joe. I should have it at home. Yes it did sell at Yenko Chevrolet. Since George Powell was a gear head ….he stood at the shop bay wall and kept trying to help them with the conversion and they got mad at him.

The Yenko Chevelle from Cadiz was orange and it was traded into McCombs for the GTX

Two 4 speed 69 Javelins for $1695 in October of 72 seems like a screamin' deal to me!

Do you know if it was auto trans and black vinyl top?

There are 3 known orange Yenko Chevelles with auto trans, PS, black vinyl top, and bucket seats
