1970 Buick GS 455 Stage I survivor
9 Attachment(s)
Nice original looking 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 survivor documented by original dealers window sticker. Supposedly matching numbers motor/trans and “runs amazing... with no smoke or leaks” according to the seller. Nice to see one of these in a color other than brown. This one apparently wears it’s original factory Sherwood Green paint, with a little rust at the bottoms of the quarters and doors. I’d like to see specific photos of those areas. Nicely equipped with PS, PB, power windows, power seats, A/C, factory 2 tone interior, deluxe steering wheel...
and a factory 10 bolt posi rear end? Really??? Is it worth $32k? https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd...244284530.html |
Buyer Beware.....this is an * Buick.
The Buick Gods have spoken. 10 bolt is correct. Dan |
As far as I know, Pontiac was the only other A body to borrow the Chevrolet 12 bolt in '70 for the 455 GTO.
So Dan, what is an asterisk Buick ??? |
Cool car, Helmut. Yes, it seems as though ALL '70-72 Skylarks were brown....
|
Yep, I agree with Dan.
Run away from this one. |

Why? What is wrong with it?

Seems to be highly suspect in the Buick community. |

With the C-clips, the small, non-hardened pinion spider gears and the tapered axles, the 12-bolt would have been no upgrade in a 510 lb-ft '70 Stage 1 over the quite stout Buick 10 bolt with hardened spider gears and 4-pinion posi. It was a very good rear, same with the Pontiac HD Safe-T-Track. Don't know if anybody crunched the numbers at GM back then on warranty claims on diff breakage but I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if the failure rate leaned more towards the Chevy side. Especially if considering 4-speed cars. |
